Our third day in Chicago brought bright skies and Lake Michigan in all her glory, as seen — at least for a brief time — through the vantage point of the Ferris wheel at the Navy Pier.
But first, we had to get there, and the free trolley we discovered the night before provided a way.
Waiting at the bus stop before it arrived…
we happened to see a bus dressed in a certain ice-cream advertisement. I suppose I paid special attention because I happen to be a fan of this ice cream. It brings me back to Grandma’s house, where this special treat always awaited in my growing up years.
But wait, did you catch this little cutie peeking out the window? I think that secret sight made my morning before it had really begun.
Upon reaching the pier, we discovered that a special exhibition was being shown the week of our visit, featuring the Rolling Stones. And so these famous lips, in various forms and creative fashion, appeared throughout our gander along the way.
Our destination, of course, was the Ferris wheel. Being a lover of the bird’s eye view, I was all too happy to be up in the sky looking down. (This is currently my computer’s desktop background.)
The garden, the colored tops of the carousel and other rides….
The city skyline and water…
It was peaceful and refreshing…
Upon our return, we split up, and some of us stopped in to gaze at the cute shops directly across the street from the Embassy Suites, our temporary abode.
My chica and I hovered around the two French shops, first taking in the wares at this darling store…
And then peeking in at the decadent desserts and pastries next door…
Including the array of multi-colored macaroons…
My girl and I decided to pause for a shared afternoon treat — a S’mores dessert and some tea.
It was on the way back from the pier that I’d noticed an Italian joint. Since we’d been talking about possibly having an Italian meal before the show later this night, I booked a reservation for six. Soon, we’d be gulping down homemade gnocchi and other scrumptious offerings at this place, which had us mamas singing a certain song of old. “Volare, oh-oh-oh.” (Look closely at the building on the left.)
It would be our last supper, in a sense, or the dinner before things almost fell apart, as you’ll soon see.
Q4U: What is your top choice of ethnic food when given lots of choices? What’s your favorite ethnic dish?

I had to pause in reading/gazing at this post to make my breakfast. Such gorgeous, tempting, delicacies! I like Thai food. I’ve been enjoying yellow curry at a restaurant near the Guthrie Theater. I’m afraid of heights, but I still go on the Ferris Wheel for that bird’s eye view.
