Tomorrow, Saturday, is going to be a big deal in our household. Our youngest daughter will be playing in a varsity tennis match, our youngest son will be out on the soccer field kicking the ball around, and I’ll be buzzing around much of the day with our oldest daughter, who will be getting ready for her first junior-senior prom.
Our oldest son will be attending his first junior-senior prom, too, but, probably not surprisingly, it’s not quite as big of a deal for him as our daughter. There are pedicure and hair appointments to keep, not to mention prom pictures and the Grand March viewing. Oh, and the post-prom party, which I will attend as a parent volunteer. In other words, I’m not going to be getting much more sleep than my kids that night.
In between all of that running, I’m going to be pulling to the side of the road, or to the corner of a parking lot, to pause just long enough to be interviewed on national Catholic radio (EWTN) with Ramona Trevino, whose story I helped write (Redeemed by Grace) and our friend Lauren Muzyka, who wrote the foreword for the book and played an instrumental role in Ramona’s conversion and transition from abortion industry worker to pro-life advocate.
We’ve each been part of the launch of the book, but of all the interviews Ramona has done, she said, this one is the most special. And indeed it is. Because this one will be hosted by Barbara McGuigan of EWTN’s “The Good Fight.” And Barbara happened to be pivotal in Ramona’s conversion, too.
The book has Barbara as a key figure in how Ramona became enlightened to life, all due to her accidental tuning into Barbara’s show one evening. That unintentional move changed the course of Ramona’s life. So to have the chance to now be interviewed by Barbara, this beautiful pro-life warrior, mother figure and mentor, will be a joy beyond words for all of us who have been involved in helping bring this story to light. It will be a true full-circle moment, if you will.
If you can, tune in at 1 p.m. Central Time here. And imagine me in my van in some obscure place, in between nail and hair appointments, trying to resettle myself to be fully in the moment. My contribution will be short, I’m sure, since we’ll need time for Ramona to share her story. But I really look forward to seeing what Barbara cooks up in the way of questions and responses. This is going to be so fun!
This day is also the day we commemorate our baby Gabriel, who died May 2, 1999. May the perpetual light shine on him, and may that light help lead us to be with him some day in heaven.
Q4U: When has a full-circle moment come to you? What was that like?
