While my husband was having a good old time this past weekend in Frisco, Texas, taking in the big NDSU Bison championship game and victory, I was home with the kids trying to keep order here. Throughout the weekend, I worked on transforming our little-used family room into my home office.

This is the fourth “new office” post I’ve shared in the last couple years. The first one happened when I launched my business, Beauclair Communications, and took up residence in space now occupied by one of my daughters. When I started work at The Forum a year ago, I shared more “new office” photos, and then again when I headed over to the diocese for the next half-year.
Now that I’m back home, and my old office is inhabited, we had to think on the best place for me to house my home office. The comfy couch we purchased last spring had the kids lingering more upstairs, so this space had become available. Just days ago, it was the dumping room, full of whatever didn’t have a place elsewhere. It had become an eyesore. Now, I love it!
It feels so cozy and probably more conducive to getting at the business of working than any space I’ve had thus far. In my mind, it’s a perfect blend of home and office. I am grateful and excited.
Even though my new office has only been “up and running” a couple hours, by day’s end, I’d filled it in pretty well. It feels to me like I’ve been here a while.
I even have a fireplace to keep me warm in the winter. It’s electric, but I’ll take it. No hassle of having to drag in wood and clean out ashes (though I DO love real fires and would have been okay with that chore).
My first faith column launched Saturday and there are going to be more of the same in the coming weeks and months. Right now, contentment is a great word to describe how I’m feeling.
Of course, all of this hard work preparing and the satisfaction of seeing it happen leads to real work that will require a lot of me. God-willing, this space will bear much fruit.

Coincidentally, I’m doing the same as you this week, only I’m not quite finished yet. I’m dusting off my desk and cleaning up the office and ORGANIZING my papers, so I can regain my personal space area to encourage the creativity flow. “… planting, nurturing and pruning…” I’m in!
Roxane, I had just been wondering how you are doing working from your home, so now I know. Your new office looks very conducive to productivity. In answer to your Q4U, I am starting my fourth year of recording, in my blog, the nightly entries I wrote in my diary 50 years ago. I don’t read ahead in my diary. That way I can enjoy each new entry as I hope my readers do.
That is a great use of that space. Glad you’ve claimed it and that it will be a creative/productive environment.
