I’m not sure why it took me right up until the final hour to figure out what my main Lenten sacrifice ought to be this year. With my new reporting job and all the writing I’m doing on a regular basis now, it seems so obvious: blogging.
I’ve been so faithful with my M-W-F blog posts and the routine has been great discipline for me. But it’s time to pull back for a bit.
A friend of mine posted something on Facebook that made a lot of sense; something to the effect that social media feeds the mind but prayer feeds the soul.
How true it is. I’m ready for some soul food. It’s going to be good for me. But when breakfast rolls around again, I’ll be back.
The real breakfast that is. Did you know that the word breakfast originates from the Catholic practice of abstaining from food from midnight until Sunday Mass? Well, that’s the way it used to be done anyway. Back then, Catholics would break the fast after Communion at a meal that came to be known as “break fast.” Or breakfast. Cool, huh? So, I will be back when it’s time to break the fast, around Easter Monday. By then, the bacon and eggs will be ready once again.
I’m looking forward to doing some more reading this Lent, and a whole lot of praying. But just in case you stop by for an infusion and I’m not off the fast yet, I thought I’d include links to the work I’ve been doing for The Forum these past weeks (a few of them are no longer available). It’s kind of fun to take a broad look at what I’ve been up to since starting on Jan. 10. I’ll start with the most recent and go backward, and maybe add to them as more come out.
Thanks as always for hanging with me, and for your patience. I wish you the most fruitful 40 days possible during this time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

The rest will do you good. Peace to you and heaps of blessings like stacks of pancakes, dripping with butter and syrup. Go. Create. Inspire!
