It’s been a while since I’ve shared a kid quote here on Peace Garden Mama. The increasingly refined vocabulary of our youngest, who used to be so generous with his contributions, is partially to blame. But occasionally I still catch one that makes me chuckle. Like this one from the other evening after dinner:
Nick, 5, swiping cookies off the cookie sheet: “What? Dad asked me to bring him three cookies.”
Me: “Three?”
Nick: “Yeah. Why, how many are we s’posed to have?”
Me: “One, maybe two. Three if youβre a Dad, apparently.”
Nick, upon heading out of the kitchen, cookies in hand: “Well I am a boy, and Iβm gonna be a Dad someday!”
Ah yeah…someday…life will be great. Someday, taking three cookies will not be suspect activity. (They really were for his dad, who has a heckuva sweet tooth…)
And here’s one for the moms out there. A mother friend sent me this link from GodTube.com. I’m keeping my post short today so you’ll have time to peek at this brief video — a visual of mothers who were asked this question: “If you could go back to before your first baby, what would you tell yourself?” These are their answers…
Q4U: If you’re a parent and could go back the time before your first baby and give yourself some advice, what would it be?
Vicky says
What a sweet boy… I admire his integrity of giving all three to his dad.
I found myself nodding to each new sign that came along in the video… having just been up all night with a vomiting child I can safely say I would tell myself, “anything you once thought you couldn’t handle, you would willingly sign up for if you thought it could spare your child… :)” That and, God Bless the inventor of cheerios…
Happy Monday Roxanne π

What a cutie, Roxane!
I think I would tell myself it’s going to be uber-stressful at times, but that’s perfectly alright. Life is about stress. But I’d be lost without them, so I might as well just enjoy every moment and be thankful they’re here. π

Vicky, It’s so fun to bump into you so often now – love your comments. Cheerios, oh yes. An essential of today’s mother’s first-aide kit. π
Shannon, yes, life is filled with tension, just like the stories we write, right? π The sooner we recognize that, the sooner we can enjoy the journy.

Such a sweetie.
What would I say to the new mommy me? Probably to enjoy every minute that I can, and not worry about the details so much. Everyone used to tell me “it passes so quickly” but it’s so true!

Sleep now, ’cause that luxury is over!!! And, keep a journal. Oh, ya, I did!
Shannon O'Donnell says
Good morning, Roxane! I have an award for you at my blog today. π

Mary, oh yes, that is the best one! A fellow mother told me that very thing weeks before I gave birth to my first child. I sure was glad she prepared me for that cold truth. I have thought about that conversation many times through the years, and through bloodshot eyes. π
Roxane B. Salonen says
Thanks Shannon. You are so good about spreading the love. π

I would tell myself to relax and enjoy: God has a plan!
