This is our third summer in the cul-de-sac, and so far, my favorite of them. And yes, we’re only a few days into it but I really feel like our neighborhood is beginning to bond. Maybe our having endured a tough winter and flood together has led to this new connectedness. Maybe it’s just taken a few years for us to feel truly settled. I don’t know, but something has changed and it’s all good.
One of the reasons we had our neighborhood grill-out tonight is because two of our neighbors are in the National Guard and had been away in Jamestown helping with remaining flood recovery until now. It was nice to welcome them home through this gathering. The weather was absolutely stunning. I keep waiting for that to change, because inevitably it will, but what a welcome we’ve had to summer through our gorgeous weather. While we adults tended to the food preparation, the kids rode around on bikes, hung out in strollers, played tag and munched on chips. It was a wonderful, lively event that made me feel very blessed to be right where we are.
I don’t know if my neighbors are also blog readers, but if so, dear neighbors, I just need to say that you are a beautiful bunch. Thanks!
