A dear friend of mine shared the following story with me from across the miles. It seemed a fitting addition to my occasional kid quotes posts, but you need to know right off that this friend, while abundantly blessed in talent, personality, intelligence, etc., is not particularly tall. So the story goes that while visiting her cousin and his family recently, her cousin’s oldest son was eager to show her his chickens, but the plan was interrupted by his younger brother, nearly five. After reading three stories to the youngster, my friend reminded him that the chickens were waiting to be visited. “No! No!” he insisted. “Those chickens are really scary. You don’t want to go see them!” To which my friend suggested that maybe they were scary because he was so little, and when he gets bigger, like her, they wouldn’t be scary at all. “You SHOULD be scared of them,” he objected, “because you are still very little even though you are old.”
