Yes, it’s true. The afternoon was quite scary as my 11-year-old gathered with a group from her fifth grade to share treats, make crafts and laugh together, all in the name of some Halloween friendship and fun. Thanks to the mother who so generously opened up her home and put forth the effort.
Later on, hubby and I stole away for a hot date. Forget Saturday night. When you’re 40 years old with five kids, Sunday’s the wild night. We went to the highly recommended film, “Fireproof.” I was encouraged to bring my spouse and extra tissues. I forgot the tissues, so had to use scratchy napkins smeared with popcorn “butter.” While my goal here is not to give parenting advice so much as encouragement, I bring up this movie for this reason: It’s true that one of the best “things” we can give our children is a healthy marriage. If you’re looking for Hollywood-style drama, you won’t find so much of that in “Fireproof” (thought it’s definitely dramatic), but you will feel very heartened in your marriage journey. The film realistically shows how difficult marriage can be, but offers a similarly realistic glimmer of hope amidst near hopelessness. It’s only out for a short time so catch it while you can!
