After dinner this evening, I pulled my 5-year-old onto my lap determined to read the stack of books he’d drudged up from his bedroom. We’re on a mission to read 200 minutes by the end of the month. The prize? A free mini pizza at Happy Joe’s. What a deal. We’d gotten to the last book, about 18 minutes into it, when one of my daughters came into the room chattering away about the third and final (of this election) presidential debate. “Oh, the debate!” Can you believe I’d forgotten? Yes, it’s true, a few important details interfered with my marking this event a priority tonight. So, I missed the first few minutes to read to my little guy, but now I’m back on track, rather distracted in my writing as I listen to the next president of the United States and his counterpart go at it. And boy, are things heating up on the old tube. If nothing else, this has been an extremely exciting election. Hopefully we can all maintain our good humor and kind natures through the final weeks. As a natural peacemaker, I choose to sing, along with my faith sisters, “Kumbaya…” (humming…) Seriously, though, I hope to come back later with more thoughts, especially relating to parenthood. For now, though, it’s back to the debate. Are you watching? 🙂
