Roxane enjoyed fishing as a
child, and after visiting Washington
state, where she spent a day collecting sea shells on the shores of Puget Sound, she decided she wanted to live near a large body of water
someday. The Pacific
Ocean wooed her back,
and Roxane landed her first career job at a newspaper near Seattle in 1992.
In August 1993, Roxane was
sent on an assignment in Shelton, Washington, to take photos of the yearly salmon-welcoming
ceremony of a nearby Salish tribe. The First Salmon tradition is one she found
profoundly beautiful. Roxane feels privileged to be part of sharing this event
with children through her book, First Salmon (Boyds Mills Press).
